Contemporary Fiction Review

Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate is a must read book! Her characters were so real. I love how she addresses things with marriage, too. The give and take needed, trusting your spouse, adjusting to a new life in a new place. The story was so believable. And she threw in a bit of mystery, too. :-)

Mallory Hale works on Capitol Hill. That's where she literally bumped into Daniel Everson. They started dating, and when he got offered a job in Moses Lake, Texas he asked her to marry him. To start a new life with him and his three year old son, Nick. So after knowing each other for a month, they hurriedly get married, pack all their stuff and drive for three long days to their new home. But the house they were offered was a mess. Vermin everywhere. And Daniel's boss, Jack West, doesn't seem to care. Who is this man really? Why is he so secretive with his business ideas? From the get go, Mallory is suspicious of him.

As Mallory tries to adjust to small town life in Texas, she begins to grow up and become less selfish. She begins a blog called "The Frontier Woman" that is a huge success, and makes friends with two unlikely women who help her see things she never thought of before. But when disaster strikes will Mallory run back to D.C. or stay and fight for her new home?

I can't say enough good things about this book. It was very well-written, and I didn't want to put it down! I wanted to know how Mallory adjusted to her new life, how she would handle all the new things thrown her way, and if she would she change. You have got to read it!!!

I was given this book free from Bethany House as long as I review it.
