Book Review

This book is hard to review.... I kinda liked it, but I disliked it more. lol Reclaiming Lily by Patti Lacy is about a couple who adopt a 10 year old child from China. Then it fast forwards 7 more years, and the one narrating is a Chinese woman named Kai. She is the adopted girl's sister, and Kai finally finds her so she can share some important health information with her and to finally get her sister back. But when she finally gets to meet her sister, Lily who is now called Joy, is in a detention center for shoplifting. Kai is the only one to get through to her, and Joy and her parents start to change for the better. The book flip flops back and forth with Kai and Gloria Powell, who is Joy's adopted mother, narrating the story.

Anyway, Joy has to go for testing for PKD which is a horrible disease requiring dialysis and sometimes a transplant to survive. Kai is a renal specialist so they travel to her workplace to get the workup done. They all hope and pray that Joy doesn't have it.

Honestly, I don't like three of the main characters in this book. I like Kai. A lot. She was the most well rounded and realistic character. But the others.... It just didn't seem realistic to me. It was definitely a book I could put down easily. lol

Anyway, maybe you will find it more interesting than I did. I liked the first couple of chapters, and then I hated how they wrote the Powells and Joy. It just didn't make sense to me.

I got this book free from Bethany House as long as I review it.
