Just A Thought

I’ve been thinking a lot about how we as Christians talk today. We talk more vulgar and blunt than ever. We have become more like than the world. Why is that? What happened to obeying the Bible in how we talk and act? Why is it that Christians today say that oh, you are just old-fashioned when in reality it’s not being "old-fashioned". It’s simply doing what the Bible says. Paul mentions how we should act and talk in almost every epistle. I want to say it is in every epistle, but since I’m not sure I’ll just leave it at that.
Ephesians 4:29 says, "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."
Ephesians 5:3-4 "But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not once be named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks."
(Jesting means coarse jesting. Convenient means proper.)
Ephesians 5: 7-12 "Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame to even speak of those things which are done of them in secret."
Colossians 3:2 "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
Colossians 4:6 "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man."
James 3:8-12 "But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh."
Another popular thing among Christians is taking God’s name in vain. That’s one of the ten commandments!!! Come on, people. We are supposed to fear God not disrespect Him. What is wrong with us? We are conforming to the world instead of becoming more Christ-like. God has been dealing with me about this for a long time. I need to be more careful what I say, and how I say it. And also what I watch. The more bad things you watch the more desensitized you become. It’s hard to find a balance with what’s ok to watch and what isn’t, but I know God will show me.
I don’t know why we think the Bible doesn’t apply to us today. That the same truths people have been upholding for years have suddenly been thrown out of the window. What we need is more time spent just reading God’s word and praying. We make time for everything else. Why not make time for the most important thing you can do every day?
This was for you, Aaron. You told me to put some of my thoughts on here so I finally did. I have more I want to put up but don't know when I will.
