Review: With Every Breath

With Every Breath by Elizabeth Camden is a page turner filled with interesting characters who guard their secrets until you are about to die to know what is going on. I could not put this book down! I flew through it and highly recommend it for anyone who loves fiction.

Trevor McDonough and Kate Livingston were the smartest kids in high school and were always competing with each other. But the biggest competition came at the end of high school when they fiercely fought for a scholarship to college. Kate was upset that she lost, but what irked her even more was that Trevor didn't even need a scholarship since he was rich. Fast forward twelve years later. Kate has been widowed for two years and has been working at the census bureau ever since. To her surprise, she receives a letter from a prestigious doctor asking her to work for him. That's when this story gets even better.

Trevor wants Kate on his medical team not only for her statistical ability but for her tenaciousness. Convincing Kate to join with him to find a cure for tuberculosis was hard enough, but getting her to stay after his tightly held secrets are divulged is another thing entirely. Will she ever let go of her fears and trust Trevor to do what he knows is right?

To me one of the best parts of the story was Kate's struggle with holding on to people too tightly. Her fear of her family dying made her loved ones afraid to be honest with her which lead to all sorts of problems. Right from the get-go I found Trevor intriguing. I loved trying to figure out what he was hiding and why he acted the way he did. I wasn't disappointed that's for sure!

The facts on tuberculosis were very interesting. I never really understood much about this disease until this book so it was a winner on that alone. Plus, the characters were amazing. They had so many facets and were so real I felt like I knew them. Seriously, try this book. You won't be disappointed!
