Review: For Love or Loyalty

For Love or Loyalty by Jennifer Hudson Taylor is the first book in The MacGregor Legacy series. I liked the two main characters in the book, but the story line itself was a little much to me. Too many things happened in quick succession that it went from being sort of realistic to absolutely not realistic. Even though I was irritated at the plot ideas, I did enjoy the book because the characters and the dialogue were so well written. I really want to read about the other MacGregor brothers in the next books!

Malcolm MacGregor is shocked and dismayed to come home from a trip to find that his mom and sister were taken by the Campbells. When one of MacGregor's men comes back with Lauren Campbell, Malcolm hatches an idea to reclaim his family from indentured service in America. Hauling Lauren with him, they board a ship heading to America, but on the trip over Malcolm regrets his impulsive decision to force Lauren to board the ship with him.

When Lauren Campbell hears what her father has done to the MacGregor's, she is filled with dismay and sadness. She is shocked when Malcolm forces her to travel to America. Lauren disagrees with his methods, but she understands that he just wants to get his family back. While on board with Malcolm, she starts to fall in love with him and can only hope that they can be together since their family feud seems like an insurmountable obstacle.

I loved reading about America before the Revolutionary War! One of the best parts of the book is how the author writes the locations really well whether it is on the boat or in the Carolinas it feels like you are there, too. :-) Overall, it was a pretty good read. I give it 3.5 stars.

I was given this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
